Returning to the Walking Dead source material
The show is exactly what taken the world’s attention, however the Walking Dead’s roots will be in magazines. That’s what Jay Bonansinga was here to speak about at his Master Stalker panel on Saturday.
Author Bonansinga collaborated with Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman around the most recent novels inspired through the comics, Rise from the Governor, The direction to Woodbury, and also the just-released Nov the Governor, which tell the storyplot of everyone’s favorite psychotic, publish-apocalyptic leader, the establishment of Woodbury, and just how its citizens viewed the appearance of Ron, Glenn, and all of those other crew.
“Robert Kirkman is God,” Bonansinga mentioned several occasions, noting that Kirkman’s ideas, storylines, character arcs, creations, tones, and mythology are what set happens for each move produced in the books and also on the show.
For each one of the three books the duo has partnered on so far, Kirkman sent Bonansinga an eight-page outline for that story’s progression. That’s eight pages for any 300-page-lengthy book.
The majority of the panel was spent deferring to Kirkman’s brilliance, but Bonansinga is clearly well experienced in the realm of The Walking Dead and knows all there’s to understand about the audience as well as their idiosyncrasies. He needs to be, if he’s likely to wreck havoc on their timelines.
He did observe that the books and also the show have markedly diverged, so “even the comic readers do not know what’s going to take place within the show.” However they coincide at arbitrary times, taking inspiration from each other whenever there’s something too juicy to pass through up.
Though Bonansinga wouldn’t take any credit for that creation-or advancement-from the Walking Dead world in the books, he seems pretty enamored by using it nevertheless.
“I’d give Michonne her very own series,” he commented. “I’d watch Michonne on the desert island, Michonne on the bus…Michonne anywhere.”
“Andrea is damaged,” he later stated. “In the books, she’s only a killing machine.”
As Governor series is going to be drawing to some close (there’s yet another up for grabs), someone requested the issue i was all wondering: Would Kirkman and Bonansinga find a different way to continue it series?
Bonansinga nodded her head intensely before responding, “Why wouldn’t they are doing more books?”
