WWTPT? (What Can Tyler Perry Trademark?)
As further evidence he always will get what he wants (well, everything except an Oscar), Atlanta film tycoon and Caribbean island owner Tyler Perry has won a trademark fight within the phrase “What Would Jesus Do?” This even though another party, Kimberly Kearney, apparently declared the trademark several weeks before Perry ever did. No, Tyler Perry didn’t gold coin this phrase. (Nor did Kearney.) But obviously, based on the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, that does not matter.
It happened to all of us that this may be the start of an avalanche of applications using the Trademark Office by Perry and the sycophants. Heck, if he is able to have “What Would Jesus Do?”, it’s only dependent on time before he attaches his name with other phrases. And thus, don’t be surprised the next soon:
- Tyler Perry’s Where’s the Beef?
- Tyler Perry’s Talk to the Hand!
- Tyler Perry’s This is CNN
- Tyler Perry’s Hellur
- Tyler Perry’s I’ll Have What She’s Having
- Tyler Perry’s Does This Dress Make Me Look Fat?
- Tyler Perry’s I Guess You Could Say I Liked Andy Dufresne From the Start
- Tyler Perry’s Got Milk?
- Tyler Perry’s Amen
- Tyler Perry’s Hi
Finally, expect the auteur to soon claim around the apostrophe. And also to sue Judy Blume to ensure that we may all eventually enjoy “Tyler Perry’s Are You Currently There God? It’s Me Tyler Perry.”
